Endodontics (Root canal treatment)

Tooth pain

Most commonly tooth pain is caused by diseases of the dental pulp and periodontium.

Dental pulp is the living tissue of the tooth. It is located in the pulp chamber and the root canal system of the tooth. It consists of nerve fibers, blood and lymph vessels. Inflammation of the pulp is called pulpitis. The most common causes of pulpits are bacteria and their toxins, which, in the presence of caries, can reach the pulp through the dentinal tubules.

Periodontium is the space between the tooth root and bone bed (alveola) of the tooth, which is occupied by collagen fibers connecting the cement of the tooth root with the periosteum of the bone, nerve receptors, blood and lymph vessels. Inflammatory disease of the periodontium is called periodontitis.

Pulpitis and periodontitis are completely curable diseases if the patient has visited the dental office before irreversible processes occurred. The treatment is done under anesthetic in order to ensure calmness of the patient. After opening the tooth and adequate cleaning of the root canals, the pain decreases and quickly disappears. The exact length of the root canals is determined digitally by an apex locator which ensures attainment of the instruments and medicaments exactly to the inflammatory focus. The use of a combination of machinery file systems during the mechanical shaping of root canals is crucial for the successful treatment. Chemical processing of root-canal system with high-quality medical solutiones is conducted after the successful shaping. Treatment proceeds with the filling (obturating) of the canals, with fillers and sealers, which ensures the success of the treatment and the longer survival of the tooth in the oral cavity.
