Silanization

Silanization is a prophylactic procedure for covering the free of caries, anatomically deep fissures (grooves) in the chewing surface of the teeth with sealants. The aim is to fill the fissures and to protect the teeth from the caries generating factors in the oral cavity. The sealant is a liquid resinous material solidified mostly under the influence of light (photopolymerizable sealant) or under the influence of a chemical catalyst (chemiopolymerizable sealant).

Silanization is carried out after cleaning, etching of fissure and drying the tooth surfaces. The procedure is quick and completely painless.

Durability of silanised fissures is between 2 and 5 years. The team of the practice points out that silanization is not a panacea and should not be taken by patients as an alternative to good oral hygiene.
